One School, One Book

We are pleased to announce that we will be once again participating in “One Book, One School” at Bergen Boulevard School. Every first and second grade student will receive a copy of, The Year of Billy Miller. Classroom teachers will kick-off the start of reading by introducing the book to their classes and begin reading aloud in school. Students will then bring their chapter books home to read with their family. This is a program designed to engage and involve parents in the essential task of fostering the love of reading in children. Learning to read is the single most important activity in a child’s education. One School, One Book is designed to create a shared reading experience within a school. Every student receives a copy, and every family reads that book at home over the course of a month. 

 

Mrs. Westervelt, our RTI specialist at Bergen Boulevard, has created read-alouds for every chapter of the book in the event your child would prefer to follow along and listen.  These read alouds can be found here (The Year of Billy Miller-read alouds) located on the “One School, One Book” tab on our Bergen Boulevard website.
